The Winston-Salem City Council is the latest local government to take action on the issue of concealed carry in the parks it controls. On Monday, November 21, the council voted 7 to 1 to prohibit firearms in 52 of the 69 parks under the city’s control. Permit holders will still be allowed to store their personal protection firearms in their vehicles while parked in the parking lots of the restricted areas.

Last night, the Knoxville City Council tabled a proposed gun-ban designed to deny all Iowans the ability to lawfully carry firearms in any city-owned building. However, the outspoken opposition of NRA and Iowa Firearm Coalition (NRA’s state affiliate) members has earned the citizens of Knoxville and Iowans across the state at least a temporary victory.

On Tuesday November 16, the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism held a hearing on Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) S. 436. Dubbed by anti-gunners the “Fix Gun Checks Act,” rather than “fix” the current National Instant Criminal Background Check System, the legislation would eliminate private sales and gun shows as we know them and expand the range of persons prohibited from owning firearms.
